AAA said its more than 39 million members saved a record $130 million last year by getting discounts from travel suppliers, restaurants and other merchants through the association's Show Your Card and Save program.
The savings, which occur when AAA members show their membership cards at nearly 25,000 U.S. and Canadian locations, rose 62% over 2008, AAA said.
In fact, the AAA Membership Discount program is one of the key reasons people join and stay in the association.

Theme Park and Tourist Attraction Admissions
Almost all major theme parks offer a ticket discount to AAA members as part of the AAA Membership Discount program. From a roadside water park to Six Flags.
To find out if a theme park, museum or other tourist attraction offers an AAA member’s discount, look for the AAA logo. Alternatively, check your AAA guide book or online for a listing of parks and attractions that accept the AAA card at the gate.
Hotel Savings
According to Consumer Reports magazine, AAA members get the deepest and best hotel discounts, probably because they’re the most willing to hunt them down.
Even when you book a hotel fare online, not through the AAA, you can still show your card at the desk to score a further AAA membership discount or free room upgrade.
AAA also offers a booking service that helps you find cheap hotels and motels along your route or wherever you’re headed on your next travel destination.
Because AAA members are often surveyed on their room experience, you’ll also find that you receive excellent service above and beyond the average standard.
Car Insurance
Most car insurance companies will offer a discount to AAA members on their annual premium. These usually translate to about $100, but it pays for the cost of the membership, so why not?
AAA Discounts on Rental Cars
One of the best AAA membership discount programs is on rental cars. The members’ organization has deals with all the major car rental companies, with the deepest discounts being offered by Hertz, Avis and Enterprise.
AAA members also get notices and special coupons advertising special weekend and vacation rates in their area or travel destinations.
In addition, some AAA memberships allow for discounts on or include various types of liability insurance. Check your membership rules and regulations for details.
Major Chain Restaurants Coupons
A number of major chain restaurants and even smaller restaurants will offer a small AAA membership discount of around 5-20%.
It may not seem like much, but when you’re traveling with a family of five, those savings can quickly add up.
