Unfortunately, not many airlines are still offering airline discount student ticket prices. However, it's still possible to get some good deals through student travel agencies that have strong relationships with air carriers. To learn more about where to look for student fares, keep reading.
STA Travel
STA Travel is massive in Europe and the United States and they focus on budget travel for students and young adults – whether it's booking a year-long trek around the world or simply hunting down the best airline discount student ticket price they can find.
The company has deals with several airlines offering special pricing for students and young people. However, to get these tickets, you'll often have to show an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) or an International Youth Travel Card. Both of these cost $22 and are available at all STA Travel and other student travel company locations.
Travelcuts
Travelcuts is a popular Canadian company that is starting to make major headway into the U.S. market. Most of their branches are located right on University campuses, and they focus their business on student travel and student discount airline tickets.
As a frequent user of Travelcuts, I know that I can typically save about 15% off the lowest price that I've found online and I get the services of an experienced travel agent included with that.
Another benefit of their service is that a ticket can be reserved with a small cash deposit and the remainder paid at a later date. This is great for expensive tickets that are better off paid in installments.
Note About Student Airfare
There's one catch to buying an airline discount student ticket – it's typically a non-flexible fare. Meaning you will be unable to make any changes to the ticket whatsoever.
So, if you want to change the date or time of your flight, you will either have to pay an exorbitant change fee (as high as $150 + taxes) or purchase a whole new ticket completely. So, if you need flexibility, you may want to pay the extra.
