Discount Pool Liners:

How to Care for Discount and Cheaper Pool Liners

Custom Search

Discount pool liners are a great way to save money, but you want to make sure they last and stay in tip-top condition, so you're not constantly replacing them. To learn how to care for a pool liner, discount or not, keep reading.

Analyze and Test the Water

Buy a chlorine and pH test kit from your pool dealer. Test the water daily for the first two weeks of the season. After that, twice a week is usually enough.

Maintain a chlorine residual level of 1 to 2 parts per million (ppm) and a pH (acidity-alkalinity balance) of 7.4 to 7.6. An incorrect pH can reduce chlorine efficiency and may damage discount pool liners.

Chlorine needs to be added continuously to the pool, even if you're away.

Chlorine is dissipated by heat and sun, diluted by rain, and exhausted in fighting bacteria that are constantly introduced. That bacteria can eat away at and destroy a pool liner. A chlorine level of 1 ppm is best. More than 2 ppm may irritate eyes and skin; less than 0.5 ppm will not disinfect.

Clean and Pump the Pool

You want to keep as much organic waste and as many solids out of your pool. A small rock on the bottom of your pool could easily scrape and possibly puncture a discount pool liner. So, be diligent in keeping your pool.

Not only can you focus on keeping the pool clean, but you can also minimize the amount of dirt and sand getting into the pool my ensuring everyone showers before they get into the pool and always putting your liner on.

Brush Down the Liner

If you can, brush down the liner once a week and vacuum if needed. This is part of keeping your pool liner clean, but also maintaining it for long-term performance. By getting rid of potential bacteria or algae, you can keep your liner lasting longer.

Fix Any Leaks or Puncture

Discount pool liners can spring leaks or get punctured. Fix liner leaks with a pool-patching kit, available from your pool dealer.
